A proper survivalist’s equipment is never complete without a reliable tool for creating fire. Currently, various types of fire starters are available for use in starting fires for home fireplaces, charcoal grills, and campfires. Some of these fire starters are suitable for starting fires if there are no wind or gusts, or if the material to be burned, for example, wood or charcoal briquettes, is dry or has been recently cut to purchase, respectively. If such is the case, other users are required to apply a liquid flammable such as kerosene or charcoal lighter fluid in aiding the ignition of the fire starter to start the fire. Generally, fire starters are made of a combustible material coated or saturated with one or a combination of various substances, rosin, tallow, varnish, turpentine, and others. These fire starters may not only burn too rapidly to start a fire, but some are toxic, thereby making them a potential hazard to small children and animals. The fire starters also have a distinct smell or odour, either before or during burning. The above problems trigger the creation of SEMARAK 2.0, a survival kit with fewer chemicals, used cooking oil and candle wax as its main ingredient. This product is eco-friendly, cost-friendly and user-friendly. Besides using candle wax as its base, dried materials such as dried leaves, coconut husk ans pencil’s husk that have high carbon are also used. The project was conducted by using the try and error method to identify the specific possible ratios to make the fire starter to light up. Until this time, the current fire-starter from hydrocarbon is harmful to the health of its user and costly. SEMARAK 2.0 can be used repeatedly as it is made of high carbon material. Therefore, it is clear that it is an eco-friendly product because it concists of non-toxic substances that will not damage the environment like the other existing fire-starter at the market. The use of materials in production also requires very low cost because it does not use a fuel source that costs a lot. Therefore, SEMARAK 2.0 can be sold at a cheaper price than other fire-starter on the market. More importantly, the results of this innovation can control environmental pollution such as acid rain. Thereby controlling the aquatic life of the population, preserving the forests from destruction and ensuring the health of humans. SEMARAK 2.0 not merely a fire starter but it is a start of showing care for the environment.
