Access to clean and safe drinking water remains a major challenge in many rural areas, where expensive filtration systems are not affordable. This project, titled “Smart Clay-Based Bio-Sand Filter with Solar UV Purification,” aims to provide a low-cost, eco-friendly, and sustainable solution for clean water. The system combines traditional natural filtration materials with modern solar technology. Locally available clay and charcoal are mixed and formed into ceramic discs that remove impurities and harmful bacteria. Coconut husk and fine sand add additional layers of filtration, improving water clarity and quality. After filtration, the water passes through a solar-powered UV LED chamber that eliminates remaining microorganisms, making the water safe for drinking. All materials used are natural, recyclable, and easy to maintain, ensuring long-term usability in rural communities. This innovation supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. The project not only provides clean water but also raises awareness about sustainable living and the importance of using green technology for community well-being.
