Abstract

Agricultural and fruit processing industries generate significant organic waste, particularly fruit peels, usually discarded due to the slow, labour-intensive, and contamination-prone nature of traditional sun drying. This study presents the ‘Eco-Fruit Drying Conveyor,’ a solar-powered system developed to enhance drying efficiency, product quality, and cost-effectiveness. The conveyor’s to-and-fro motion, enclosed with transparent polycarbonate sheets, ensures improved airflow and uniform exposure. Trials with pineapple and papaya peels achieved <10% moisture in 2–2.5 hours, 35% faster than static drying. This eco-friendly, low-cost technology reduces contamination risks, supports sustainable agriculture, and offers strong commercialization potential for rural communities.
