The Smart Extension Plug (SMEP) is an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart device developed to optimize electricity usage among residents of Block G, Kolej Kediaman, Kolej Vokasional Shah Alam. SMEP enables users to remotely control electrical devices via the Blynk mobile application. Additionally, it provides real-time monitoring of voltage and electric current, along with a timer feature that allows for automatic scheduling of device operations. Furthermore, this project first compares several past projects, including the Smart Plug Prototype, Wi-Fi Smart Plug, and Smart Plug. SMEP adopts the Agile model, which is divided into six main phases: planning, analysis, design, development, testing, and feedback. Each phase is carried out iteratively to ensure adaptability to user needs and continuous improvement of system quality. A survey of 36 respondents was conducted using a questionnaire, and the collected data was analyzed via Google Forms. Based on the analysis results using Microsoft Excel, SMEP has been proven effective in helping users manage electricity usage more efficiently by 72%. This project helps reduce energy waste and enhances user safety with its energy monitoring and smart control features. Moreover, using SMEP encourages students to be more aware of their energy consumption, making it a part of their daily habits. With its innovative features, SMEP has the potential to be expanded to other institutions and domestic households, supporting smarter and more sustainable energy management. Additionally, advancements in IoT technology in energy management can open opportunities for various improvements and the integration of more efficient new technologies in the future.
