Hydro-ResQ is an innovative, student-developed portable water purification system designed by SK Taman Bukit Dahlia, Johor, to address the urgent need for clean water during emergencies and natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. In disaster situations, access to safe drinking water is often disrupted, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea. This project aims to create a low-cost, eco-friendly, and efficient solution to purify contaminated water on-site. Hydro-ResQ utilizes multi-layer filtration technology composed of activated carbon, sand, gravel of various sizes, cotton, and antibacterial cinnamon bark to effectively eliminate harmful substances, bacteria, and odors. Tested on floodwater samples, the device achieved impressive results, significantly reducing TDS levels and improving pH balance within WHO-recommended limits. Lightweight and sustainable, Hydro-ResQ is a practical tool for emergency relief efforts and has strong potential for wider humanitarian use. This innovation empowers communities and reflects the potential of youth-driven science in solving global challenges.
